Orillia Casino Rama Tournament

Orillia LBC hosted their annual Casino Rama (Open Pairs) tournament on September 9 with a full entry of 16 teams. One of the Barrie teams, Harold Danby and Wayne Nelson came away as the overall winner with a three game high score of 45 points. Congratulations to Harold and Wayne.

This year's ReMax (Heather Jones) Tournament played in Barrie on September 23 was won by a host club team. Playing together for the first time the team of Wayne Nelson (skip), Penny Bassett and Beverly Mills were High 3 Game winners overall tournament champions.

Barrie /Stayner Challenge
On July 4/17 a group of bowlers from Stayner visited Barrie for the annual challenge match between the two clubs. This was the 6th annual competition for "Rolling Pin Trophy" ith the Barrie group successfully retaining the trophy. In all 24 bowlers (12 vs. 12) competed in the event while six other bowlers played a fun game. Gift presentations (provided by Beth Willoughby) were presented to the visitors and dessert was enjoyed by all. Next year's match will be hosted by Stayner.

Red & White Day - 2017
The club celebrated their annual Red & White Day on July 3 with a "Canada 150" theme. The lounge was suitably decorated by Anita and Rob with banners, flags etc. and a day of bowling was enjoyed by 20 bowlers. Following bowling there was tea, coffee, sandwiches, cheese and crackers all topped off with a commemorative "Canada 150" cake and ice cream. Thanks to the Scrutons' for providing all the "goodies".

Barrie Bowlers win at Collingwood Tournament - Australian Pairs, 24-Jun-2017
Teams from Collingwood, Stayner, Barrie, Midland, Hanover and Orillia played on beautiful sunny day. Thanks to Bruce and Mildred Lowe, and Ingrid McBride for working in the kitchen, all of the bowlers were very appreciative of your contribution. Thank you also goes to the tournament organizers Jane Moore and Donna Locke for their work in taking registrations, scoring and setup. Congratulations to the winners and all of the participants.

June "In Club" Tournament
The club held it's annual June In club tournament on June 19/17 with 24 members participating. Three six end games were played with the club supplying lunch for the event. Tea, coffee, sandwiches, cake & ice cream (from the Scrutons) and cookies were enjoyed by all. All for the low, low entry fee of $5.00 Prize winners (pictured) were:

2017 Georgian Chevrolet Tournament
The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted the 19th Annual Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC lawn bowling tournament (Open Pairs) this past weekend at the Barrie Sports Dome. Twelve team competed in the event , four from the host club and eight out of town teams (Midland 2, Stayner 2, Lindsay, Kitchener, Orillia and Collingwood). The High 3 game winners and overall champions were a team from Stayner - Jim Robbinson (skip) and Gerry Cox.

2017 Matthew's Tournament
The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted their first tournament of the summer season on May 13/17. Twelve teams (8 visiting teams and 4 Barrie club teams) participated in the event, the Matthews Trophy, sponsored by long time member Nancy Matthews. Visiting teams were from Hanover (2), Midland (3), Stayner, Orillia and Collingwood.

High 3 Game Winner and overall champions was a Barrie team - Michael Martin (skip and shown left), Nelson Jordan and Nancy Matthews. Other winners were:
2nd High 3 Game Winner - John Ferguson (skip), Harold Danby and Mary Jane Dawson (Barrie).
High 2 Game Winner - Ron O'Sullivan (skip), Gary Butineau and Marv Hebner (Midland).

Final Tournament
The Club hosted our final tournament of the summer season on Saturday Sept. 24 at the Barrie Sports Dome. A full entry of 14 teams participated in the event sponsored by Re/Max (Heather Jones) with 10 visiting teams (Orillia 2, Cosburn Park 2 Hanover 2, Cannington, Stayner, Collingwood and Midland) and 4 Barrie teams. High 3 Game Winner and overall champion was an Orillia team skipped by Robb Barsevich with Raj Rajalingam and Ben Cole. Dinner at the Diner

The club held a dinner to mark the end of the 2016 season on Wednesday Sept. 21 at the Midway Diner. The event was attended by 32 people (24 bowlers and 8 guests) who enjoyed a full course turkey dinner with mashed potatoes , gravy, peas, stuffing, cranberry sauce, a beverage and apple crisp for dessert. Following a delicious dinner there were door prizes with 14 lucky winners plus a gift certificate donated by the restaurant. A most enjoyable "wind up".

Another Club Win !
Our club's team of Rob Scruton (skip) and Beth Willoughby were the overall winners at a tournament in Collingwood on Sept. 3/16. Playing in the BMO Nesbitt Burns Trophy (WP/MP) Pairs event, Rob and Beth were the High 3 Game Winners with 36 points. Congratulations!

Ron Hartley Memorial Tournament - 2016

Tournament Win
Great news!
On August 7 Stayner LBC held the inaugural Peter Forster Memorial Tournament honoring long time Stayner member and former President of the Barrie Area winter Lawn Bowling Club, Peter Forster. The Barrie team of John Ferguson (skip), Michael Martin and Beth Willoughby were the overall winners of the event. In the final they played a strong team from Midland skipped by Ron O'Sullivan with Carol Finlayson and Marv Hebner. The score in the final game was 16-10 for the Barrie team. Congratulations !
Congratulations as well to Carole Mills (skip), Gord Smith and Nelson Jordan who were the second high 2 game winners at the event.

Stayner/Barrie Challenge - 2016
On July 9 club members travelled to Stayner for the annual Stayner/Barrie Challenge matches. The competition alternates between Barrie and Stayner with this being the fifth year.
Despite home green advantage the bowlers from Barrie were able to retain the "Rolling Pin Trophy" and the "bragging rights" for another year. Each club was represented by 12 players, playing trebles with Barrie winning 51-42 on the night. Other Barrie bowlers joined Stayner members for fun games, in all over 40 bowlers participated.
The evening concluded with strawberry short cake, fresh cut watermelon and tea and coffee along with "prizes" for the victors.
Thanks Stayner for an enjoyable evening.

Canada Day 2016
The Club held its annual Canada Day (Red &White Day) on Monday July 4/16. The event featured special presentations to two former members and two recent retiring members - Marg Ney, Millie Whalen, Betty Shier and Mary White (absent) in recognition of their contributions to the club over the past several years. As well, 12 members of Club 60 (Visually Impaired) lawn bowlers joined the celebrations of the day. The lounge was suitably decorated for Canada day by Anita and Rob Scruton. Members (Carole, Beth & Don) provided a lunch with sandwiches, garnishes and tea and coffee. Following bowling, a Canada Day cake and ice cream (provided by Anita & Rob), tea and coffee was served to end a great day at the club. Approximately 40 members and guests attended.

On June 15 the club held the first In Club Tournament of the season. In all 25 bowlers participated playing three six end games. The entry fee was $5.00 per player which included lunch. The overall winner with 3 wins, was the team of Michael Martin (skip), Ema Berg and Alan Fairchild.

Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC - Open Pairs
The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted their second tournament of the current season on Saturday at the Barrie Sports Dome, the event was the 18th Annual Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC - Open Pairs. Ten teams participated with five teams from the host club as well as visiting teams frmo Collingwood (3), Stayner (1) and Orillia (1). Heart and Stroke Charity Tournament
On Feb.22/16 the Barrie Winter Lawn Bowling Club, working with sponsor Heatherdale Senior Living, hosted a charity tournament in support of the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation. A total of 37 lawn bowlers took part in the event. The winning team with 3 wins was Beth Willoughby (skip), Ema Berg and Margaret Charity. Second overall was the team of John Ferguson (skip), Jack Harris and Mary White. Michael Martin (skip), John Bowden and Marilyn Pillar were third place.

Proceeds from the event (entry fees, club share of the 50/50 and member donations) totaling $857.00 went to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation. A successful event! A special thank you to our sponsor, Heatherdale Senior Living, for providing a delicious chili luncheon with salad, rolls, fruit and desserts. Also thanks to Rob Scruton for the sandwich tray and the "yummy" butter tarts.

Re/Max (Heather Jones) Tournament
The Barrie Lawn Bowling club hosted their final tournament of the summer season on Sept. 26 at the Barrie Sports Dome. Fourteen teams (Midland 3, Collingwood 3, Stayner 2, Orillia 1, Hanover 1 and Barrie 4) competed in the one day event - with a Midland team skipped by Cindy Higgins winning the Re/Max (Heather Jones) Championship Plaque.

The District 13 Inter Club League held a season ending Fun Day at the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club on Sunday Sept. 20. Thirty bowlers participate in a 12 end "fun" game with the overall winner being a team skipped by Mel Jones (Orillia), Michael Martin (Barrie) and George Kimber (Collingwood).
A "Pot Luck " dinner , a brief report on the season and prize monies for the season followed the bowling.

Barrie - Stayner Challenge
On July 13 the club hosted the annual challenge match between bowlers from Barrie and Stayner. The two clubs "battled" for the prestigious "Rolling Pin Trophy". Barrie were the defending champions and again emerged victorious with 128 points to Stayner's 88 points. Twenty six bowlers participated and joined together for tea, coffee and desserts afterwards. Special thanks to Joyce Jordan for the gifts she made for each of the visiting (14) players. The top scoring bowlers from each club were awarded prize money as follows:

Red & White Day
The club held the annual "Red & White Day" on June 29 to celebrate Canada Day since there was no bowling on July 1. There were 25 bowlers plus one member who did not play. The annual group photo was taken as well. The Scruton's decorated the lounge with flags, lanterns, banners and many other great items to commemorate the day. As well they provided a Canada Day cake after bowling. Nelson Jordan provided fresh strawberries and whipped cream and the Rajalingams added fresh blueberries to the mix. A fine day for all !

The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted their annual Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC tournament on May 16 at the Barrie Sports Dome. On Wednesday April 1 the winter bowlers celebrated Easter a bit early courtesy of Anita and Rob Scruton. The lounge was decorated with Easter colours, a special cake was served with ice cream. Barrie Lawn Bowling Club webmaster Garry Higgins and Club Executive Carole Mills attended a strategic conference hosted by the Maple Leaf Lawn Bowling Club in Port Charlotte, Florida. The 86ºF temperature forced the meetings outside, however, the refreshments were nice and cool. Garry was quoted as saying, "we are fortunate to belong to a club that supports these continuing education efforts". The 2016 Conference will be held at the Sun City Florida Lawn Bowling Club.

The final lawn bowling tournament of the summer season was held September 13. Ten teams from Stayner (2), Collingwood (2) and Barrie (6) competed for the REMAX (Heather Jones) Trophy with the overall champion being a host club team. The team of Beth Willoughby (skip), Carole Mills and Gord Smith was the High Three Game winner. Second High 3 Game winner was a team from Stayner with Jim Robbinson (skip), Gerry Cox and Evelyn Dickson. High 2 Game winner was John Ferguson (skip), Jack Harris and Margaret Charity from Barrie. High 1 Game winner was Raj Rajalingam (skip), Jane Rajalingam and Dorothy Miller also from Barrie.

Summer bowling ends September 29 and Winter bowling starts October 27.

DeBruyn wins gold!
This past weekend Barrie lawn bowler, Nel De Bruyn competed at the Canadian Blind and Visually Impaired Championships in Brantford. She competed in the Class B3 category winning the Gold Medal in two events. She was victorious in Ladies Singles and Mixed Doubles. Heartiest congratulations. Ron Hartley Memorial - Stayner
Another good showing for a Barrie team at the 2014 Ron Hartley Memorial tournament in Stayner on August 24. The team of John Ferguson (skip), Carole Mills and Gord Smith were the High 2 Game winners and second overall. The tournament was won by Jim Robinsson of Stayner playing with two Barrie members Raj and Jane Rajalingam. Teams fro Stayner (4), Collingwood (2), Dundalk, Hanover and Barrie (2) competed in the event.

Orillia Australian Pairs
The team of John Ferguson (skip) and Beth Willoughby were High Two Game Winners at an Australian Pairs tournament held at the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club on August 22/14. They played well in all three games and finished third overall. The winners were a host club team skipped by Robb Barcevich. There were 12 teams in the event with entries from Orillia, Barrie, Cannington, Stayner and Collingwood. Well done !

More good news! Another Barrie LBC team is victorious! The team of John Ferguson (skip), Beth Willoughby and Marg Barrett were the overall winners at the Casino Rama Tournament in Orillia on July 31. The team won all their games and the trophy in the one day event. Teams from Oshawa, Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Collingwood, Orillia and Barrie participated. Our new club shirts gained several positive comments as well. Congratulations to the winners.

John Prior Tournament (Stayner) 2014
We had three entries at the John Prior Tournament in Stayner on July 20 with teams skipped by John Ferguson, Brian Barrett.
One of of our teams,Carole Mills (skip), Gord Smith and Nelson Jordan came away as the overall winner. They defeated Wayne Riddall of the host club in the championship game. Congratulations on their success!

In Club Tournament - June 11/14
The annual June In Club Tournament was held on Wednesday June 11. A total of 24 members participated playing three six end games. The following were the prize winners:

Georgian Chevrolet Trophy to Stayner Team.

The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC tournament this past weekend at the Barrie Sports Dome. Ten teams including six from the Barrie club, two from Collingwood and one each from Richmond Hill, and Stayner competed in the one day event. The overall champion was the Stayner team skipped by Jim Robbinson with Evelyn Dickson and Gerry Cox (high 3 game winner) a repeat winner of this event.

High 2 game winner was a Barrie team of Beth Willoughby (skip), Rob Scruton and Anita Scruton. Other winners were John Ferguson (skip), Marian Young and Margo Smith of Barrie (2nd high 2 game winner) and high 1 game winner Nelson Jordan (skip), Brian Barrett and Margaret Charity also from the host club.

The Club's final open tournament of the summer season will be held Sept. 13. For information on lawn bowling in Barrie contact Nelson Jordan at (705) 722-3088.

The annual Stayner-Barrie Challenge match was held Aug. 27 the Barrie Sports Dome. The defending champions from Stayner visited Barrie in quest of their second straight "Rolling Pin Trophy".
Two teams of ten paired off with the host club emerging victorious by a total score of 42-34. Tea, coffee and goodies followed and a good time was had by all. Stayner will host the event in 2014.

The Barrie Winter Lawn Bowling club will begin the 2013/14 season on Monday October 28, 2013 indoors at the Barrie Sports Dome on Hanmer Street. Play continues until Wednesday April 23, 2014 (48 bowling days). There is a short break before Christmas. Bowling times are every Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Tea , coffee and "goodies" are served after bowling. The rates for the season are: One day - $160, Two days - $260 and Pay As You Play - $10 per day. New bowlers are welcome. The club offers free instruction and there are club bowls available (free of charge) for new bowlers.

Continued success on the greens.....
On June 27, playing in a Mixed Triple tournament in Stouffville, a Barrie team was again victorious. The team of John Ferguson (skip), Beth Willoughby and Gord Smith were the overall winners from a field of 18 teams, Clubs entered were from Stouffville, Uxbridge, Newmarket, Pickering, Oshawa, Willowdale and Barrie. To quote John....."a good day, good food and the team played well". Congratulations!!

Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club hosted a pairs (Mixed Pairs/Womens Pairs) on June 22. Barrie teams did very well! Overall winner was the team of Beth Willoughby and Carole Mills while David and Janayre Vaughan were the High 2 game winner and second overall. A total of 12 teams representing 7 clubs (Barrie, Beaton, Collingwood, Meaford, Midland Stayner and Orillia) were entered in the event........congratulations to Beth, Carole, David and Janayre......well done !!

Good news!
John Ferguson and Carole Mills teamed up in an Australian Mixed Pairs tournament in Orillia on June 13. A total of ten teams (Orillia, Collingwood,Aurora. Bobcaygeon, Bracebridge and Barrie) were entered and the Ferguson/Mills combination were the eventual winners. They played the host club team of Mel Jones and Ben Cole in the final, winning 23-5. Congratulations to John and Carole on their fine performance.

24 members participated. Entry fee was $5.00 per player which included lunch of Pizza and salad. Tea, coffee and dessert was served after the second game.

The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC tournament this past weekend at the Barrie Sports Dome. Ten teams, five from the Barrie club and two from Stayner, two from Collingwood and one from Orillia competed in the one day event. The overall winner was a Stayner team skipped by Jim Robbinson with Mildred Lowe and Gage Currie. Second high 3 game winner, also from Stayner was Raj Rajalingam, Jane Rajalingam and Nancy Nicol. Other winners were Nelson Jordan, Margaret Charity and Marg Barrett from Barrie (High 2 game winner)and Robb Barcevich, Ben Cole and Kevin Binsted from Orillia (High 1 game winner).

Matthews Trophy Tournament
The Club hosted their first tournament of the 2013 season, the Matthews Trophy tournament, at the Barrie Sports Dome this past weekend. Fourteen teams competed with five teams from the host club and nine visiting teams - Midland (2), Collingwood (3), Hanover (2), Uxbridge (1) Stayner (1).

The overall winner was a team from Midland skipped by John Ferguson with Jane Rajalingam and Chelo de Los Rios with three victories. Second high three game winner was the team of Lori Butineau, Laurie McLeod and Peggy Dundas also from Midland.

Lawn Bowling Finale
The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted their final tournament for the 2012 season, the Ron Armstrong Memorial, on Sept. 15 at the Barrie Sports Dome. Ten teams competed in the one day event with five club teams and five visiting teams - Midland (1), Stayner (2) and Collingwood (2). Barrie teams fared well winning three of the four event prizes including the Armstrong Trophy. The prize winning teams were:

The Barrie Winter Lawn Bowling Club begins at the Dome on Monday, Oct. 29 at 1:00 P.M. New members/new bowlers are welcome. Instruction is free for new bowlers and club bowls are available for use for the first season. Contact Peter Forster at (705) 443-4100 or Don Holman at (705) 733-2073 for more information.

Inter Club 2012 Season Finale
The District 13 Inter Club League concluded the 2012 season on Sept. 9 with a Fun Day and Pot Luck dinner at the Midland Lawn Bowling Club. 44 Bowlers participated. Prize money for the season's play was awarded to the teams based on points accumulated throughout the six club competition.

Final standings were:
   First place - $160.00 Collingwood &Midland (tie) - 48 points
   Third place - $130.00 Beeton - 46 points
   Fourth place -$100.00 Barrie & Orillia (tie) - 41 points
   Sixth place -#70.00 Stayner - 29 points.

Thanks to all involved in making the season run smoothly and to Midland and District Lawnn Bowling Club for hosting the Fun Day. The simplified points system implemented this year seemed to work well and will be continued for next season.

Hosting Ladies Pairs
On June 16 and 17 the club hosted the District 13 Ladies Pairs playdowns. Seven teams (Newmarket, Uxbridge (2), Midland (2), Beeton and Stouffville) were entered in the two day event. The play on Day 2, Sunday featured Danielle Benmerguie (Newmarket) versus Cindy Higgins (Midland) and Peggy Dundas (Midland) versus Wendy Switzer (Beeton). The final was an all Midland event with Cindy Higgins and Carol Finlayson emerging as the champions in an extremely well bowled game. Lori Butineau was playing with Peggy Dundas.

Beth Willoughby did an excellent job in organizing the "hosting" and deserves a big thank you. The players appreciated the hospitality. The conditions in the Dome were ideal throughout the weekend.

At the Ontario Finals (16 team double knock out) in London (July 7 & 8), Cindy and Carol continued their winning ways as they won all their games to capture the Gold Medal and a berth in the Canadian Championships to be played in Montreal in mid August. Congratulations to the deserving winners !

Sandy McDonald In Club Tournament
After ten years, the final Sandy McDonald (In Club) tournament was played on June 13 with 21 members participating. Overall winners based on points were Carole Mills (23 points) and Merilyn Smith (22 points). The event featured a Pizza and Salad lunch for all players included in the entry fee. Cash prizes were awarded to the players based on points earned.

Stayner Mixed Pairs
The Stayner LBC held a Mixed Pairs tournament on July 6 with two teams from Barrie entered. Beth Willoughby and Brian Barrett were second high 3 game winner with 39 points. The second entry of Dave and Janayre Vaughan did well winning two games, but finished of the prize money. Ron O'Sullivan and Lori Butineau from Midland LBC were the overall winners with 42 points.

Georgian Chevrolet GMC Tournament
The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club hosted their second open tournament of the 2012 lawn bowling season this past weekend at the Barrie Sports Dome. The tournament was sponsored by Georgian Chevrolet GMC and was contested by teams from Orillia, Midland, Stayner , Collingwood and the host club Barrie.

High 3 game winner and overall champion was a Midland team skipped by Barrie resident John Ferguson. Other team members were Wayne Nelson and Chelo de Los Rios.

High 2 game winner and runner up was Robb Barcevich (skip), Kevin Binsted and Dave Payne from Orillia.

High 1 game winner was Donna Locke (skip), Bruce Lowe and Jane Moore from Collingwood .
